In a thrilling and dominant performance, Manchester City defeated Real Madrid 2-0 on Wednesday to advance to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Bernardo Silva scored both goals for City in the first half, giving the English club a commanding lead heading into the second leg next week.

City controlled the tempo of the match from the outset, and Silva opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a low shot from just inside the penalty area. The Portuguese midfielder doubled City's advantage in the 28th minute with a curling effort from outside the box.

Real Madrid struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first half, and they were fortunate not to concede further goals. City continued to press for more goals in the second half, but Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made several impressive saves to keep the deficit at two goals.

"We played a great match against a great team," said Silva after the game. "We knew it would be difficult, but we stuck to our game plan and we got the goals we needed. We're delighted to be through to the semi-finals."

The victory gives City a significant advantage heading into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu next week. However, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti knows that his team is capable of scoring goals and turning the tie around.

"We're not out of this tie yet," said Ancelotti. "We have to go to Manchester and score goals. We're confident that we can do it."
