Bahrain Grand Prix Practice 1: Perez Takes Top Spot

Red Bull's Sergio Perez set the fastest time in the first practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix, edging out two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin.
Perez clocked a lap of 1:32.486, just 0.043 seconds ahead of Alonso, who put in a strong performance in the new Aston Martin AMR23. Third-fastest was Mercedes' George Russell, followed by Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.
The session was interrupted by a red flag late on after Lance Stroll crashed his Aston Martin, but there were no major incidents. The teams had a chance to test their new cars and gather data ahead of qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday.
The 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix is the first race of the new Formula 1 season, and it is expected to be a close and competitive battle. Red Bull and Ferrari are the favorites, but Mercedes, Aston Martin, and other teams will be looking to challenge for the top spots.
