Born in 1958, Erich was the son of legendary wrestler Fritz Von Erich. He rose to fame in the 1980s as part of his father's promotion, World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW). Over the course of his 11 years with WCCW, Erich won numerous championships and became one of the most popular wrestlers in the Southwest.
In 1990, Erich signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as WWE. He wrestled under the name "The Texas Tornado" and won the Intercontinental Championship once. Erich also had a stint with the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) before returning to the WWF in 1992.
