De Minaur Vs Zverev

Alex de Minaur stuns Alexander Zverev to reach United Cup final

Australian underdog produces stunning comeback to book place in title match

Alex de Minaur has announced himself as an Australian Open contender with a come-from-behind win against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the United Cup.

The 24-year-old Australian, ranked 24th in the world, dropped the first set to the German second seed but fought back to win 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in front of a partisan home crowd in Sydney.

De Minaur will now face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Taylor Fritz in the final on Sunday.

The win is a major boost for De Minaur's confidence ahead of the Australian Open, which begins on January 16.

"I'm just so happy to get the win today," De Minaur said.

"I knew it was going to be a tough match, but I just kept fighting and I'm so happy to get the win in the end."

Zverev, who is ranked 12th in the world, was disappointed with the loss but praised De Minaur's performance.

"Alex played a great match today," Zverev said.

"He was just too good for me today. I wish him all the best in the final."
